“Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” This week has powerfully demonstrated that message, as pupils across the school have embraced assessment week with maturity and determination. They have risen to the challenge admirably, approaching each paper with focus and resilience. Conduct has been consistently positive, and the high standard of manners shown in and around the examination spaces has been particularly pleasing. Together, these qualities are a clear indicator of the continued rise in academic standards across the school.
“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” Eleanor Roosevelt’s words resonate strongly as Years 7 to 10 complete their assessments and our Year 11 pupils continue to show determination and resilience throughout their GCSE examinations.
At our school, End of Year assessments are an important part of each pupil’s journey. They help identify strengths, highlight areas for growth, and ensure that every child receives the right support. Beginning this process in Year 7 is particularly valuable, as it gradually builds familiarity with examination conditions, reduces anxiety over time, and develops essential skills such as time management and resilience. This early exposure creates a smooth pathway into mock examinations and, ultimately, the GCSEs themselves, ensuring pupils are not only academically prepared, but also mentally equipped to succeed.
Next week, pupils will begin to receive feedback, an essential part of the improvement work we have prioritised this year. High quality feedback is crucial because it closes the gap between where a pupil is and where they need to be. It helps pupils to understand their strengths, recognise misconceptions, and identify precise next steps for improvement. Most importantly, it empowers them to take ownership of their learning. When used effectively, feedback transforms assessment from a one off event into a continuous process that drives progress, builds confidence, and supports every pupil in achieving their full potential.
Have a lovely weekend.

Our Chaplaincy Team met on 9 June to plan for the remainder of the academic year, and we are pleased to share several exciting initiatives. Next week, we will hold a Friday cake sale to raise funds for our Food Bank. Proceeds, alongside your generous donations, will support our visit where chaplains will help pack boxes for those in need within our local community.
Pupils have already begun designing posters and will visit tutor groups to encourage further donations. In July, we look forward to an end of year celebration in the chapel, recognising the dedication and achievements of our Chaplaincy Team.
We are also working towards a Holy Mass on 20th July, which will include the blessing of our new St Francis of Assis Chapel and Peace Garden. In preparation, pupils continue to contribute to the development of the St Joseph’s School Prayer, which we hope will become central to daily worship across the school.
Mrs. O’Grady’s group continues their inspiring work with Laudato Si’. We also hope to resume visits to Exeter House next week. Thank you for your continued support, generosity, and encouragement.
With every blessing.
