Headmaster’s Message– Week 36 (6 July 2026)

Jul 10, 2026

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we reach the end of another busy and successful week, I would like to reflect on the many positive developments taking place across our school.

Many of you will be aware that we hosted an Ofsted inspection this week. While I am unable to comment on the outcome or share any feedback at this stage, with the report not due until September, what is clear from the sheer volume of evidence we had to provide is the significant progress our school has made over the past two years. Visitors to the school regularly comment on the positive atmosphere, excellent behaviour and the growing sense of pride across the school. Throughout the inspection, our pupils were a real credit to the school. Their maturity, kindness, support for one another and impeccable behaviour reflected the values we strive to instill every day. Combined with the dedication of our staff and the support of our families, these qualities have helped drive the remarkable transformation that everyone who knows the school can see. We now look forward to this summer’s GCSE results, which we hope will provide further evidence of the positive journey we are on and the impact of the hard work being shown across the school.

That journey was on display again this week as Year 10 students enjoyed an outstanding STEM experience with QinetiQ, including the exciting arrival of a helicopter and a series of hands-on workshops that brought science, technology and engineering to life.

We were also delighted to welcome a large number of prospective families to our Open Morning following the success of our Year 5 Taster Day. It was wonderful to see so many parents keen to experience the school in action and witness first-hand the warm, purposeful and ambitious environment we have created.

Alongside these exciting opportunities, pupils participated in important knife crime awareness sessions, helping them better understand personal safety, risk and informed decision-making. Meanwhile, our environmental work continues to flourish, with pupils proudly completing the school’s first Bug Hotel, which will soon be welcoming its first tiny residents.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

Have a wonderful weekend.

As you read this newsletter, our school chaplains will have spent time at the local Foodbank, delivering donations collected by our school community and helping to prepare food parcels for local families. These experiences provide a powerful reminder that small acts of kindness can make a real difference, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported our Foodbank collections throughout the year.

Following their visit, the chaplains will enjoy some refreshments as we celebrate another successful year of chaplaincy. It is a fitting opportunity to thank them for their enthusiasm, commitment and service. They have been outstanding ambassadors for St Joseph’s, giving their time so willingly to support liturgies, charitable initiatives, prayer opportunities and community outreach.

We are also excited about the continued development of our new school chapel. Once the final decorating and electrical work have been completed, we will begin furnishing the space in preparation for an official opening and blessing in September. We are hopeful that Bishop Bosco MacDonald will be able to join us for this special occasion, and we look forward to sharing further details with parents and carers in due course.

Thank you for your continued support throughout the year. We wish all members of our school community a peaceful and restful summer break.

With every blessing.
