Admissions

St Joseph’s Catholic School is a mixed comprehensive, 11–16 secondary school in Salisbury, Wiltshire.

On this page, you will find information relating to our admissions process. This will mean either that your child is moving from Year 6 to Year 7, or that they are moving secondary schools during the school year.

When making an application for a place at St Joseph’s, please refer to the Admissions Policy relating to the school academic year of entry for further details.

Whilst children who are baptised Catholic will always be given priority for admission, we do still offer places to students who are not Catholic or from a religious background. We therefore welcome applications from those of any faith or none.

Places at St Joseph’s Catholic School are offered in the following priority order:

  1. Catholic Looked After Children (LAC)
  2. Catholic children resident in the School’s designated parishes
  3. Other Catholic children
  4. Other Looked After Children (LAC)
  5. Catechumen
  6. Staff children (more than 2 years)
  7. Other Christian denominations
  8. Any other children

Within each category, priority is given to those attending one of the named Catholic partner primary schools, and then those with a brother or sister at the School.

Step 3
Step 3

Complete Supplementary Information Form

Complete a Supplementary Information Form which can be found by clicking the button below, or you can collect a copy from our school. This gives us information relating to the categories set out in the Admissions Policy.

Supplementary Information Forms must be returned directly to the school at admin@sjcs.org.uk.

If a Supplementary Information Form and additional evidence (where applicable) is not submitted directly to the school, this may affect the priority given to the application and could affect the likelihood of your child being offered a place.

PLEASE NOTE: YOU MUST ATTACH A COPY OF YOUR CHILDS BAPTISM CERTIFICATE IF APPLYING ON FAITH GROUNDS.

Step 4

Offer

If you applied for a place online by the deadline of 31st October, you will recieve notification of the outcome on 2nd March 2026.

If you submitted a paper application, the outcome will be posted to you on this date so you will recieve it shortly after.

Online applications are recommended so that you receive the outcome on the national offer day of 2nd March.

Step 5
Step 5

Appeals

Appeals – Admission to Year 7 in September

For applications made in the normal admissions round and submitted before the deadline of 31st October, appeals must be heard within 40 school days of the deadline for lodging appeals.

For late applications (i.e. submitted before the first day of the school term of the admission year), appeals should be heard within 40 school days from the deadline for lodging appeals where possible, or within 30 school days of the appeal being lodged.

Appeals – In Year Admissions

For applications for in-year admissions, appeals must be heard within 30 school days of the appeal being lodged.

Appeals and Waiting Lists

The name of a child whose application for September entry to Year 7 was unsuccessful will automatically be placed on a waiting list.

Parents of children whose application for in year admission was refused may ask for their child’s name to be placed on a waiting list.

The waiting lists will be operated according to the School’s Admissions Policy.

Placing a child’s name on a waiting list does not prevent an appeal being lodged. If an appeal is unsuccessful, the applicant’s name will remain on the waiting list.

In-Year Admissions

If you are considering an in-year admission, please contact Mrs Hodge in the first instance, who will be able to guide you through the admissions process: admin@sjcs.org.uk or 01722 335380.

All applicants will be considered in line with our determined Admissions Policy. Where the School has no spaces available, because the admission of another child would prejudice the efficient education of others at the School or would prejudice the efficient use of resources, the application will be refused and a right of appeal will arise.

Please note that schools we are unlikely to be able to respond to applications during school holidays. If you are waiting for an outcome, you may need to wait until the school returns.

If you would like to request for an appeal against non-admission for in-year transfers, please complete and return this form within 20 days of the date on the refusal letter.
