Staff List

Senior Leadership Team

Mr M. Higgins – Headmaster

headmaster@sjcs.org.uk

I joined as Headmaster in September 2024 and my vision is to ensure everyone achieves their excellence at St. Joseph’s.

After graduating from Portsmouth University with a degree in Mathematics for Finance and Management, I started my teaching career at St. John’s College, where I was given many leadership opportunities and was promoted to Assistant Headteacher with academic responsibility for the curriculum and pastoral leadership of Years 10 & 11. I worked for the GDST as Head of Mathematics and Trust Consultant, Magna Academy as Assistant Principal (Assessment), and Ballard School as Deputy Head (Academic). In addition, I have a Master’s degree in Leadership and Management from the University of Southampton.

I am a practising Catholic at Corpus Christi in Bournemouth, am married to Danielle, and have two daughters, Evie and Lola.

Mr K. McGuinness – Deputy Head (Pastoral) & DSL

kmc@sjcs.org.uk

As both a parent and step-parent to five wonderful children, I bring a personal understanding of the ups and downs that come with raising a family. I know how important it is for children to feel safe, supported, and understood—and I carry that belief into everything I do as Pastoral Deputy Head.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working in a wide variety of schools across both London and Wiltshire, gaining experience in academic and pastoral roles. This has given me a broad perspective on the different ways children learn, grow, and thrive, and I’m passionate about creating an environment where every pupil feels valued and empowered.

I’m especially enthusiastic about the role technology can play in education and wellbeing. Whether it’s using digital tools to enhance learning or streamline support systems, I love finding innovative ways to make school life more engaging and inclusive for everyone.

At the heart of my work is a commitment to building strong relationships—with pupils, families, and staff. I’m always here to listen, offer guidance, and help ensure that every child feels they belong and can be their best self.

Mr R. Rooney – Deputy Head (Academic)

rro@sjcs.org.uk

I joined the St Joseph’s family in July 2014 and am very proud to be part of the leadership team of a school that combines excellent pastoral support with a great academic record. My teaching career up until that point was in an outstanding inner London school where I had a variety of leadership roles, including Head of RE and Head of Year. I have a real passion for teaching and learning and want the pupils at St Joseph’s to do the best that they can do and be the best people that they can be, neatly summed up by my mantra: “Do your best and mind your manners!” Developing our pupils into well-rounded young adults who fulfil their potential is what motivates me to get up in the morning!

Previously, I also had a career outside of teaching where I was research director for a multinational conference company organising financial sector conferences and events.

Outside of school, I am a proud father of two, a happy husband, and a keen footballer. I also enjoy cycling around the Wiltshire countryside and coaching a local youth football team. I am a practising Catholic and proud to play an active role in St Osmund’s parish as a reader at mass.

Mrs F. Nobis – Assistant Head (Inclusion) & Designated Teacher for CLA & PCLA

fno@sjcs.org.uk

I have been at St Joseph’s since 2015, and with every year that passes, I become even more proud to say that I am part of the team. Our teachers are committed, our support staff caring and professional, and our pupils friendly and eloquent.

My role at St Joseph’s includes the support and monitoring of particular groups of learners: those in receipt of the Pupil Premium Grant, and those that have English as an Additional Language. I am also the lead for Careers Education Information Advice and Guidance (CEAIG) and PSHE. As a teaching staff, we work hard to ensure that all our learners are enabled to achieve their full potential. I feel that here at St Joseph’s we are ideally placed to help the pupils gain access to the future they want and also to develop as considerate, perceptive individuals. The curriculum we offer is exciting and engaging also.

Outside of school, I am a practising Catholic. My Italian ancestry has helped me to develop a love of growing and preparing food for my family!

Mr O. Ford – Assistant Head (Assessment & Digital Strategy) & DDSL

ofo@sjcs.org.uk

I began my teaching career at St Joseph’s in 2013. During my time here I have been fortunate enough to work in several different roles and gain experience in leadership of all elements of school life, both pastoral and academic. This has pushed me to constantly diversify and evolve my practise, and the chance to work with our students both in the classroom and on the sports field. This allows me the opportunity to appreciate all our students’ strengths, both academic and athletic.

In my current role I am focused on facilitating and supporting all students to achieve to their maximum potential. Using effective assessment methods and structured feedback that moves students’ forwards, we can empower all students to progress and offer targeted intervention where necessary. I also work with the Headmaster and all school stakeholders to help shape the school’s digital strategies, to ensure that our classroom technology, digital learning platforms and use of emerging technologies ensure students are receiving the best possible learning experiences.

Outside of school I am proud to be a father to (soon be two) beautiful daughters and am blessed with a wonderful wife who inspires us all to be our best. When not doting on them I pursue interests in physical fitness, gaming and pizza making!

Mrs K. Snell – Operations & Strategic Director

ksn@sjcs.org.uk

I joined St Joseph’s in 2016 as PA to the Headteacher, a role that gave me valuable insight into the school’s culture and operations. In September 2025, I was proud to step into the role of Operations & Strategic Director, where I now oversee key areas including compliance, HR,  premises management and strategic development.

Before joining the school, I worked in the Welfare to Work sector, supporting individuals into employment through a range of programmes. I also bring experience in Human Resources, which has shaped my approach to staff wellbeing, recruitment and organisational development.

My transition into school operations was driven by a strong belief that a well-managed and supportive environment is essential for both staff and students to thrive. I am passionate about creating systems and structures that enable teaching and learning to flourish.

Outside of work, I’m a mum to two wonderful girls and enjoy spending time outdoors, whether hiking, exploring nature or simply being active with my family.

Heads of Year

Ms H. Sheeley – Head of Year 7

hsh@sjcs.org.uk

Year 7 is where your St Joseph’s journey begins, and what a journey it will be! It all starts with transition days where you will get to know your tutors, new teachers and your way around the school building including the really important places like your tutor room, the canteen and reception.

You will have the opportunity to take roles such as Form Captain and Sports Captain and will undoubtedly receive hundreds of House Points, as well as Achievement Points which go towards special rewards trips at the end of the school year!

You will study subjects that you are familiar with and some that are new and exciting. There will also be sports clubs, art competitions and reading programmes to name but a few.

Most importantly, you will become a member of the St Joseph’s community – where we always do our best and mind our manners and where we always look after each other!

Mr N. Brown – Head of Year 8

nbr@sjcs.org.uk

Year 8 is an exciting year, as you will have now found your place in the St Joseph’s community. This is the year where you can try new experiences and find your passion, before selecting your option choices the following year.  We have a dedicated careers team who introduce the world of work and careers, which coincides with our PSHE Lessons. We also have additional 1-1 Career sessions with our PP and SEN Pupils. We start discussing careers early to ensure the pupils understand the purpose of education and make the most of all the experiences St Joseph’s has to offer.
My vision is to educate the whole child, holistically, and to ensure that they are prepared for life beyond the school gates. Opportunities at St Joseph’s include extracurricular clubs, school trips, enrichment and a range of school councils/groups. We also have a variety of sporting competitions, awards assemblies and charity events such as The Big Sleep, Wear it Pink and The Shoebox Appeal. This links strongly to our values as a school, as we believe in giving back to the community through service and compassion.
We are a team that shows great pride in all that we put our minds to – and stands by our mantra: “do your best and mind your manners!”

Mrs C. Hambly – Head of Year 9

cha@sjcs.org.uk

My vision as Head of Year 9 is to effectively support pupils as they begin their GCSE journey and maintain this through to Year 11, fostering an air of maturity as they do so.

I truly believe that helping pupils with this tricky step into a more independent way of learning requires a great deal of support, both pastorally and academically, as we help to manage pupils through the start of their option choices; as well as new aspects such as coursework and essay writing.

In Year 9 we also support the pupils in developing their teamwork, communication and leadership skills. This can range from peer mentoring either as a mentor or a mentee with a Year 10 or 11 pupil, to taking part in House Competitions, as well as any extra-curricular activities that we encourage pupils to take part in.

We hope that by the time pupils finish Year 9, they have been holistically prepared to begin their GCSE studies and achieve their best results.

Miss J. Snook – Head of Year 10

jsn@sjscs.org.uk

As the Head of Year 10, my vision for this academic year revolves around effectively supporting our students as they navigate their GCSE journey and fostering a mature and empowered approach as they enter Year 11.

In Year 10, our focus is on the development of teamwork, communication, and leadership skills. Students actively engage and are involved in peer mentoring, leadership roles, House Competitions, and explore various extracurricular activities to enhance their personal growth.

Understanding the increasing importance of careers and further education, our Year 10 students actively participate in our Work Experience programme, seamlessly integrated with our comprehensive Careers Education programme and supported by our dedicated Careers Lead, Miss Gale.

By the end of Year 10, our vision is for students to be holistically prepared to enter Year 11, equipped with the confidence and competence needed for the final steps of their educational journey. We strive to create an environment where academic excellence, personal growth, and a strong sense of community are at the forefront of our students’ experiences.

Together, let’s make this academic year a positive and empowering experience, focusing on growth, learning, and making the most of the opportunities on offer.

Mrs C. Webb – Head of Year 11

cwe@sjcs.org.uk

Year 11 is arguably the most vital year of our pupils’ school life. We strive to place a level of importance on pupils’ academic progress whilst supporting them with life after Saint Joseph’s.

Our year group are highly valued members of the Saint Joseph’s community and participate actively in whole school life. They act as role models in our school, initiatives such as being a prefect or mentoring, aid not only the younger pupils but give our Year 11s the opportunity to develop leadership skills.

We strongly value our pupils’ thoughts and perspectives and actively engage with them, in order to give ownership to their own studies and outcomes. We have high expectations of our pupils, teamed with an outstanding level of pastoral support from our tutor team. We aim to foster positivity within our team and nurture their aspirations for the future.
