In preparation for Mock Interview Day, Year 10 spent a day in February, off timetable to prepare themselves for the world of work. During the day pupils were taught how to write a CV, a letter of application and fill in an application based around the work experience place they had chosen. These were then sent unchecked to the employers to be scrutinised before the interviews in March.
Over the following few weeks before the Mock Interviews, pupils worked with their form tutors on interview techniques. Through role play and watching videos they were taught about body language, eye contact and how to handle themselves during the interview.
On the actual interview day the school hall was sectioned off into separate areas so that individual interviews could be more private. Pupils had so much to think about, like how to present themselves, how to sit and how to shake hands, and that’s before they had even opened their mouths to speak! Most of them valued the experience and said they felt more at ease once the interview had begun and the nerves began to fade.
We are extremely grateful to all the employers who willingly gave up their time to volunteer for this. It has given them a valuable experience that hopefully they will learn from and use later in life.
