This year was our 8th Salisbury Book Awards which we launched just before the Christmas break in December. The challenge, as always was for pupils to read 6 specially chosen books in just 12 weeks before deciding on their favourite at a celebratory lunch on World Book Day. This year we had 15 Pupils taking part with a few newbies but mainly book award regulars from KS4.
On World Book Day all pupils who had completed the challenge were invited to lunch. Pupils eat and chatted about the books and then voted on the group favourite to take forward to the award ceremony.
This year the award ceremony was held at St Edmunds Girls School. All of the participating schools were invited along to find out who would be the 2015 winner. Author of “Slated” Teri Terry was the visiting author. Teri has been a scientist, a lawyer, an optometrist; she has managed businesses, worked in secondary schools and libraries. Writing and stories always hummed along in the background, but it wasn’t until she moved to England in 2004 that they took over and she became a full time author. She talked about her multi-cultural past, her books and how the “Slated” trilogy evolved.
