We had a fantastic sports day this year with 17 new records being broken; with some records being older than the competitors themselves! All 4 houses put in great performances with each house winning a number of individual events in each age group. The day was topped off with the Staff v Students 4x100m relay race with both Staff teams being the victor – phew!
As stated records were broken in 17 events which is incredible especially as some records date back to 1994. Record Breakers include: Laila Goode, Year 7 Girls Discus; Joshua Connolly, Year 7 Boys Discus; Mary, Year 7 Girls 200m; Ed, Year 7 Boys 100m; Year 7 Boys 200m; Owen, Year 7 Boys 1500m; Caitlin, Year 8 Girls 100m; Luke, Year 8 Boys 300m; Joshua, Year 8 Boys Discus; Joshua, Year 9 Boys 300m; Kimberley, Year 10 Girls 1500m; Tom, Year 10 Boys Discus; Michael, Year 10 Boys Shot; David, Year 10 Boys Long Jump; Kirk, Year 10 Boys 100m; Liam, Year 10 Boys 400m; and Kieran, Year 10 Boys 200m (please note in this event the first three athletes all broke the previous record dating back to 2002).
All records broken are a great accomplishment from each athlete however special mention needs to be made to the following: Kimberley, year 10 – breaking a 20 year record in the 1500m by over 30 seconds! Owen, year 7 – who also broke a 17 year old record in the 1500m, which was previous held by Mr and Mrs Emmett’s son Peter.
This year it was extremely difficult to select individual winners of ‘Best Athlete’ for each house due to their being so many successful athletes. However, after long deliberations the winners from each individual house were; Year 7 student: Owen- Francis; Year 9 student Josh – Margaret; Year 10 student Liam – Teresa; Year 8 student Luke – Vincent.
The Best Female and Best Male athlete of the Sports Day competition; Best Female athlete was awarded to Year 10 student Kimberley; Best Male athlete was Year 7 student Edward.
Final results showed three houses all to be very close with one another, however one house was a clear winner being over 50 points clear of 2nd place. In 4th position was Francis House with 668 points, 3rd was Teresa House with 670 points, 2nd was Vincent House with 707 points, with a clear winner being Margaret House with 748 points! This is the second consecutive year in which Margaret has won! Congratulations to all Staff and Students who helped the day be a success, it was such a pleasure to watch high level competition along with great sportsmanship and support from all four houses.
Roll on Sports Day 2015.
