Here at St Joseph’s we felt very privileged to be offered the chance to take our Year 10 Able Gifted and Talented pupils to visit Jesus College Oxford on Tuesday 10th February 2015. During the day pupils had a tour of both Oxford city centre and the University, an introduction to Oxford life and a taste of what it would be like to study there. There was also an introduction to higher education and student finance led by current students. The day then culminated in an amazing academic interactive session on spiders led by a very inspirational lecture.
We also felt very privileged to be served lunch in the college dining hall, a fantastic space that felt as if we were on the set of a Harry Potter film eating in the Hogwarts dining hall. The day was academically challenging and was aimed at Year 10 pupils who have the potential to achieve top grades in the majority of their GCSEs. We hope that days like these motivate and support our pupils to achieve their full potential in all subject areas. They also hopefully raise awareness of the learning opportunities open to them and increase aspiration performance and achievement to ensure that pupils work hard and reach their full potential.
