Thursday 5th May 2016
St Joseph’s were very privileged to be offered the chance to take our Year 10 Able, Gifted and Talented pupils to visit St Edmund’s College Oxford on Thursday 5 May 2016. During the day pupils had a tour of both Oxford City centre and the University. They were given an introduction into Oxford life and a taste of what it would be like to study there. There was also an introduction into higher education and information on the different types of courses you could study. The day culminated in an amazing lecture on Psychology led by a very inspirational lecturer.
The day was aimed at Year 10 pupils who have the potential to achieve top grades in the majority of their GCSEs. We hope that days like these motivate and support our pupils to achieve their full potential in all subject areas and raise awareness of the learning opportunities open to them.
“My trip to Oxford University was really enjoyable; we had a tour around St Edmund’s and Oxford City Centre. I learnt that we don’t need to be really posh to get into Uni and we just need a passion about a subject. I gained a lot of knowledge about the university and how to apply.”
