Mr Sibley, Food Technology teacher describes his experience of the Macmillan cake sale.
“It was almost overwhelming the generosity of the students and parents who were able to donate to the Macmillan cake sale of Friday the 25th September. Being a new teacher to the school I was unaware of quite how spectacular the event would be as over 500 cakes were donated for this good cause. The cakes came in all shapes and sizes, some were shop bought but many were homemade; all were spectacular!
When the bell for break time rang, the cakes flew off the tables and it was only because of the many students who had volunteered to help that we were able to keep track of all the sales. 20pence here, 40 pence there, it all added up! By the end of break time it was clear that it would have to continue into lunchtime to sell the vast quantity of cakes. Finally, with about 10 minutes of lunch left the last cake was sold!
After a lot of counting the totals appeared and having only sold cakes at 20 pence each over £130 pounds was raised for the Macmillan charity from the students and a further £100 from the staff. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who were involved in the event and I look forward to beating this year’s total next year!”
